3. --- Staff position Explanations ---

Administrator: Online Administrators can be contacted many different ways. You may either scroll down the name list and search for a user marked with the (*) symbol and a lightning bolt graphic, or, you may type ‘/who *’ and that will show the On-duty Administrators, and you may follow up with a tell, or otherwise, you may type ‘/assist I need an admin’. In this case, your request will be sent to all online Administrators and one shall be with you as soon as possible. However, to make it easier for them to assist you, you can customize your assist by typing what it is exactly you need help with, an example of this includes; if you are stuck in a game, you may type ‘/assist Admin, I am stuck in a game’. This will enable them to help you as quickly and as effectively as possible. Please note, that Administrators can get very busy at times, thus, we ask for your patience in the event the Administrator you are contacting is busy. Administrators will always be at your service.

Guide: As with the Administrator position, you may contact a Guide the same ways as stated above, however, Guides have limited commands and are primarily focused on Server and Interface related questions. You will find that Guides are marked with a (G) symbol following their user handle, and a G graphic to the right of their user handle. To see all online Guides, you may type ‘/who G’ (Please Note: The G must be a capital G.) Guides can also be contacted via the ‘/assist’ command. Guides are always at your service.

Tournament Director: The Tournament Directors of Chess.net are marked with a TD graphic and a (TD) following their user handle. Their job is to primarily focus on running tournaments for the users. Tournaments can be requested through an automated bot named TDr. Please type ‘/tell TDr help’ for a list of commands and how to request a tournament. Online Tournament Directors can be seen by typing ‘/who D’ (Please Note: The D must be a capital D.) You may also request a tournament by contacting them using the ‘/tell’ command

4. --- Modes ---

There are 2 modes on chess net a chat mode and a play or as we say command mode.

You Can switch modes by using the " ESC " key on your keyboard or by clicking on the Enter Command on the bottom left corner of the chess.net interface.

 Command Mode:

This allows you to seek games abort games adjourn games and look at your statistics and others and also your rated record vs another player.

Chat Mode:

This allows you to talk in various rooms to chat in a room you must first listen to the room ie /listen politics then to chat there you must type /fsay politics

--- 5. Chat Commands ---

Below is an explanation on the several ways to chat on the server:

Shout:
The '/shout   <Message> ' command is used to send what you want to say (marked in the section to the left) to the room you are currently visiting. Upon entering you are usually stationed in the Public room, and in the public room a ‘Shout Quota’ of 90 seconds has been set, this is to prevent flooding. A room has been set for general chat; GeneralChat.

Fsay:
The
'/fsay <room>  <Message> ' command is used to forward a message into a certain room you are listening to. Eg. If I was wanting to say ‘Hi’ in the politics room, I would type /fsay Politics Hi Please Note: This will only work if you are listening to a room. To do so, you can type /listen  <Room Name>

Tell:
The
'/tell <name>  <Message> command is the most common command used on the server as it sends a personal message to a user. Eg. If I was wanting to tell the user ‘Aussie’ ‘Hi’, I would type /tell Aussie Hi or I can look on the user list and click the user I want to send a tell to once, and type in the text box what I would like to say to the user.

Please Note: The admin staff cannot see your chat, however If you use profanity and the person it is addressed to has his swear filter set to 3 an Administrator will be alerted of the incident and action may be taken against you.

--- 6. Room messages ---

In order that the public rooms do not get cluttered up Chess.net provides a number of rooms where specific topics may be discussed.

A.  To list all different rooms type /ListChannel
B.  To listen to a room type /Listen <Room>
To send a message to a room (You are listening to) type /fsay Bishop Hello All
C.  To stop listening to a room type /mute <Room>

Examples:

For example, to listen to the "Bishop" room type
/'Listen Bishop'
To send a message "Hello all" to the bishop room, you would type /'fsay Bishop  Hello all'
To stop listening to the "Bishop" room type /mute Bishop

Please note that in the case of controversial subjects such as religion or politics the admin staff will insist on them being discussed in the rooms set aside for them so as not to disturb our members who don’t want to have their screens cluttered up with discussions they are uninterested in.

7 7. --- Swear Filters ---  ( Safety Features )

This feature allows the server to filter tells from other users that
contain profanity.

There are basically 4 levels of filtering:

Level 0 -
This has no filtering.  You will receive all tells sent to you.
Level 1 -
This is the default setting, and in this level, swear words will appear to you in a scrambled form.
Level 2 -
Tells containing profanity will not be received by you.
Level 3 -
Tells containing profanity will not come to you.  The Chess.net administrators will be notified that the user sent you a tell containing profanity.

To set your filter preference, type /set swear < Number>

Usage: Pending

All challenges will have a number, they will be located to the farthest left of each challenge

Example: /Accept 10    (Accepting a challenge with the challenge number 10)
Example: /Decline 10    (Declining a challenge with the challenge number 10)

To set yourself so that NOBODY can challenge you to any games use the "Open" command.
To set yourself back open so that you can receive challenges use the
"Open" command, again.
