All the best to my present and future chess friends all over the world!

My name is Dan Vasiesiu, I am 31 years old and I live in Romania (Europe). A few things about myself:

I started to play chess very late, at the age of 15. My first results in national competitions proved my talent. Unfortunately I had no chess mentor and little time for preparation. I had to do it all by myself and it wasn't easy (loving chess is not enough...). I managed to improve constantly even though I couldn't afford to play more than 3-4 serious tournaments each year. My first attempt to get an IM title was succesful at the age of 23. I have a very busy schedule mainly due to my job. I work as a doctor (professor assistant, PhD in neurology). So I had to stop my quest for a GM title and dedicate most of my spare time to teaching chess. This activity doesn't require me to leave my hometown. I am proud to say that some of my students have become better than their teacher! Hobbies: soccer, computers, science, music (Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre).

Teaching chess over the Internet is challenging for the trainer and effective for the student. I have been doing this for several months and had no complaints. Those who pay attention to my lessons make quick progress.

LESSONS ON CHESS.NET

My lessons concentrate on middlegame improvement. I also have lessons dealing with openings, but my goal is to explain plans, pawn structures, typical piece manoeuvres etc. I have noticed that beginners and even intermediate players spend too much time learning long complicated opening lines by heart. During the actual game, they become confused by the first non-book move made by the opponent and eventually lose. A perfect move by move opening knowledge is essential for top GM's, especially for sharp tactical lines. Still ... usually it is not the opening that decides the winner. The ability to understand a position, to find the right plan and then the best move is more important. During our lessons we can analyse games, including yours, and see where you go wrong. Sometimes you will have some homework to do! I prefer people dedicated to improvement, taking longer series of lessons. Such people will have me as their trainer, chess advisor and even friend. Due to my busy schedule I can't afford to give lessons for free. I prefer 2 hour lessons (one hour is not so efficient). A 2 hour lesson will cost $40-60 (lower prices for people taking more lessons and for young ambitious players). As far as I know, this is the lowest price you can get from a titled player (I know people who ask 2-3 times more).
